Politicians meetings in TN : Adverse impacts over enviroinment

We all know that in Tamil Nadu elections are conducted every five years to elect the State assembly and its share of members to the Lok Sabha.

There are 234 assembly constituencies and 39 Lok Sabha constituencies. The state has conducted 14 assembly elections and 15 Lok Sabha elections since independence. And this year (2016) election is going to be conducted and every political parties are very busy in campaigns and public meetings to face the 2016 election. The factor now becoming a huge threat is that the plastic and non-plastic waste management during a public meeting and after a meeting being done. Not only the waste management but also many factors being reported by public and media against the politicians meetings but the main factor now which becoming huge threat is there is no proper plastic waste management after the completion of meetings by the political parties which conduct the open area meetings or the by the Government corporation.

Survey conducted in USA on 2014

Based on a survey conducted in USA on 2014, it has been found that more than 12% of total soil
deposition is plastics. The percentage of plastic deposition is more than the wood and mineral depositions in the soil. The fact to mention here is that this survey was taken only on area where proper waste management was being done. Then there is no survey needed to show how much plastics deposition will be in our country where no proper plastic waste management is being done. We are living beneath the soil which has plastic depositions like a sea.

The current Scenario in TN is very worse to mention regarding plastic waste management. It can be explained if we see what happened in a meeting which was conducted by a political party on 27th of Feb in Chennai. The first thing is that the political party members and their supporters are being crowded to the meeting place from all over Tamilnadu. Huge traffic jams due to enormous amount of vehicles to the meeting caused the public to struggle for the whole day on their time of commute. The second thing to mention is the banners and plastic cut-outs being placed every 100 meters in the way throughout the meeting place. It was so horrible that these cut-outs and banners are being made just for one day meeting and all these will not be re-used and the impacts of these cut-outs directly affect our ecosystem. The third thing to mention is the scenario after the meeting is over. The whole area is filled with plastic garbage's and wastes. In one day and by hundreds of thousands people, the whole area is polluted. And there is no single step taken by the political party to clean the garbage's who promises that they will keep the surroundings clean and hygienic if they are elected by public.

The only way to minimize these kind of unwanted pollutions is to make strict conditions when permission is granted for a political party to make public meetings. The condition should include ban for cut-outs and banners and also only acceptable usage of recyclable plastics and proper plastic waste management done by the respective political parties conducting meetings. Our government blames us and prohibit us to pollute the surroundings but these kind of political pollutions are seems to be unaware by the government. A government should be a example in plastic waste management and hope that we Indians should wake up and keep our surroundings clean only for our future earth to be a heaven to live.
