Westernisation: Impact over Indian culture

             

                    We all live in a modern world. Our lifestyle has been drastically modified. Everything we do must surely have to show our status symbol. Everything has become modern even the humans with stylish haircut, outlook, dresses and even our attitude. We like to talk in English and love to make fun of our very own mother tongue. Here "we" denotes the teenagers like us. Our Indian culture is not slowly eradicating but it was mostly eradicated by teenagers like us but only in metropolitan cities and it has been eradicating in other parts of country too which is a sad news. Why we changed from our identity? why we don't care about our culture and tradition? The answer is "We all wish to impress people,attract them whether we know or don't know others, we would like to dress cool and look good and we wish some heads turn around to see us". This answer may be irrelevant to many of the readers but trust me, this is what is the basic reason for our change. We believe that priorities are calculated based on our looks.

              The term westernisation not only defines the changes that took place in clothing but also changes happens in industry, technology, law, politics, economics, lifestyle, diet, language, alphabet, religion, philosophy and values. Westernisation traces it roots back to Ancient Greece, the birth place of western culture. And whenever we talk about westernisation, modernization will be compared and debate happens. But there is a big difference between modernization and westernisation. People wearing Jeans, T-shirts, Girls wearing short skirts, tops, jeans etc.. and feel that they are modern; this is pure westernisation - copying what people are doing there in western countries. This is not modernization. 

                  It is so hard to see a teenage girl visiting temple early morning wearing our traditional saree or a teenage guy visiting a temple with his family in dhoti and shirt. Because, we're much busy in late night parties, hangouts.The sad thing is that we feel ashamed touching the feet of our elders or going to temple but we love to visit bars and late night parties. "We live in India. We invented Zero. We created Vedas. We spoke worlds oldest language-TAMIL. Our ancestors predicted whole lot things which gonna happen 100 years later. We initiated everything. Am I right?" But why we being attracted to those cultures which won't suit here in India. Remember that our parents or grandparents or great grandparents were once farmers. But we act like born american. Great!

                 

               Adopting western culture, is not a criminal offence. But instead of just adopting we are just forgetting our culture and are totally influenced by the western culture as we fell like more attractive. Westernisation also paved way for the mass giants like KFC, McDonalds, Pepsi, Coke, Burger King and lots and lots of western brands having their strong market here. Result bad health, new diseases, early age signs of strokes, cancer, diabetes and the consequences list goes on. There is no way out because our mentality is totally changed which brings out the evil things out.

                   Also there is no doubt in saying that by adapting the western culture our teenagers are becoming more independent, confident and self-dependent which is extremely good for the society. But once a wise man said "Too much of anything is never good". The enthusiasm to learn things of other nations is not wrong, but they should not be at the expense of our traditions and culture.

                   

                    But I have lots of trust over the foreigners who came over to our nation under tourist visa. To see them wearing our traditional dress makes me feel proud and make me think how much they love our culture and traditions. Those traditional western cultured people are in fond over our culture and tradition but we Indians are running behind their western culture. It's time to wake up. Our country India is like a tree whose roots are culture, tradition. harmony and brotherhood. Hope we all unite together to save our culture and make the foreigners to say "Incredible India!" by seeing our culture and tradition.
